PROFILE

Ms Judy Hermans,  is a human rights activist who has established herself in civil society over the past four decades, with broad experience in several relevant
fields. Her experience covers, in particular, fields such as gender empowerment projects, Early Childhood Development work and housing rights.

She has served as a board member and in management in organisations such as Uhuru Network (NPO), Inkwenkwezi Ekhanyayo (NPO), Northpine
Civic Association, (as a Project Manager) at Northpine Educare Centre, as well as on the NPO Arbitration Panel and Editorial Committee of the Social Security Review.  She presently serves as the Board Chairperson of the National Development Agency (NDA), whose mandate it is to assist with poverty eradication and Civil Society capacitation.

She is also a Board member of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and serves on two Board Sub-Committees, namely, Governance, Strategy and Ethics and Human Resources and Remuneration Committee.

In addition, she has useful experience in the public service, having been elected and having served as a councillor in local government and previously as a Housing Assistant at the Cape Town City Council. She also served on the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Portfolio Committee which dealt with policy formulation, appeals and objections from citizens.

She holds a BA degree from the University of the Western Cape.  Ms Hermans has extensive experience in stakeholder engagement and community outreach facilitation, administration, strategic and operational planning, monitoring and evaluation of projects to ensure delivery of services.
